Turkish-Style Bean Stew
A comforting and traditional dish made with CEREN Canned Beans, tomato paste, and aromatic spices. A beloved classic in Turkish homes, usually served with rice or fresh bread.
Ingredients
- 2 cups CEREN Canned Beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes, peeled and diced (or 1 cup canned tomatoes)
- 2 tablespoons CEREN Tomato Paste
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups hot water or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the base: In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion and sauté for 4–5 minutes until golden. Stir in garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add vegetables and paste: Add the chopped green pepper and cook for 2–3 minutes. Stir in CEREN Tomato Paste and diced tomatoes. Cook for 4–5 minutes until the tomatoes soften and the mixture becomes saucy.
Add beans and spices: Incorporate the CEREN Canned Beans into the pot. Stir well, then season with cumin, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt.
Simmer the stew: Pour in hot water or broth. Stir, cover, and simmer on low heat for 20–25 minutes so the flavors blend and the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Serve: Once cooked, garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve hot with pilaf or warm bread to soak up the rich sauce.
