Kunefe with Cheese Filling
Ingredients
- 300 g CEREN Fresh Kadayıf
- 150 g unsalted cheese (like Hatay cheese or mozzarella), shredded
- 150 g butter, melted
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- ½ lemon slice
- Crushed pistachios, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare syrup: Boil sugar, water, and lemon slice for 10 minutes. Cool completely.
Butter kadayıf: Shred and separate kadayıf strands. Pour melted butter over and massage until well-coated.
Assemble: In a shallow pan, spread half of the kadayıf, pressing gently. Add a layer of cheese. Cover with remaining kadayıf, pressing again to create a compact layer.
Cook: Place pan over medium heat or bake at 200°C (390°F) for 20–25 minutes until golden and crispy on both sides (flip halfway if cooking on stovetop).
Finish: Immediately pour cold syrup over hot künefe. Garnish with pistachios. Serve warm so the cheese stretches.
