Spicy Harissa Beef Empanadas
A South American street food twist filled with harissa-spiced beef.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons CEREN Hot Harissa Spice Blend
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup green olives, chopped
- 2 boiled eggs, chopped (optional)
- 1 packet empanada dough rounds (or pie crust, cut into circles)
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
Prepare filling: Heat olive oil in a skillet. Cook onion and garlic until soft. Add beef, cook until browned. Stir in CEREN Hot Harissa Spice Blend, paprika, cinnamon, olives, and chopped eggs. Cool mixture.
Assemble empanadas: Place 1–2 tablespoons filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold over, crimp edges with a fork.
Bake or fry: Brush with beaten egg and bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes, or fry until golden brown.
Serve: Hot, spicy, and flaky — ideal as snacks or appetizers.
